5 (more) Things Found in Every South African Kitchen

In our HomeConcept blog titled 5 things you’ll find in every Mzansi kitchen, we took a look at a few highly popular South African products that can be found in practically every kitchen pantry in the rainbow nation.

Well, we got so nostalgic when developing that one, that we decided to write another one! Here are five more uniquely South African products you’ll find in (almost) every Mzansi kitchen…

Ouma Rusks

If you’ve ever had a cup of coffee or tea in a South African kitchen, you’ll have more than likely been offered one or two Ouma rusks.

Available in a range of delicious flavours, like condensed milk and three seed, Ouma rusks are the perfect snack to dip into a warm cup of coffee or tea.

KOO Chakalaka

One does not simply cook South African shisa nyama without adding at least half a tin of KOO Chakalaka to the pot! Whether you like it mild or HOT, there’s a KOO Chakalaka tin you’ll love.

You’ll find one of these tins in most South African kitchens, either on the counter about to be cooked with or in the pantry next to the baked beans and tinned spaghetti.

Black Cat Peanut Butter

Few things taste as good as fresh white Sasko bread with butter and a generous slab of Black Cat peanut butter! Hmmmm, reminds us of our school days…

Few South African kitchen regulars can boast to have been around as long as the Black Cat range of peanut butters, first bottled and retailed in 1926!

Knorrox Stock Cubes

Another serious South African kitchen celebrity comes in a thin, rectangular box with a cow’s head on it. Yep, we’re talking about Knorrox stock cubes!

Whether you’re cooking curry, stew, soup or another saucy savoury meal – adding a Knorrox stock cube is the BEST way to add some hearty, wholesome flavour.

Fatti’s & Moni’s Macaroni

It was in 1896 that Luigi Fatti opened a small grocer in Johannesburg, selling authentic Italian goods to a very young Johannesburg community.

One product that has stood the test of time has been the Fatti’s & Moni’s macaroni! You’ll find one in every South African kitchen cupboard, easy to cook and oh so delicious!
