28 Feb To Handle Or Not To Handle?
Choosing handles can be your favourite part of your kitchen remodel or it can be a total nightmare, either way, we want to help you understand the basics so that you can tackle this task with confidence.
There are lots of things to consider that will influence your choice, but we will look at those a bit later. To start we have highlighted the two main considerations when choosing your cabinet hardware – which are functionality and style.
Number one, does it function well enough and in a way that suits your needs? And two, does it complement the kitchen style that you are going for? These two considerations can be broken down further to include what size and shape you’d prefer, and which handles suit your taste best.
In their most simplest form handles can be broken down into the following categories:
Standard bar handles are brilliant in their simplicity and extremely functional. You can get handles in a variety of styles with a multitude of finishes, standard handles will be a timeless addition to your kitchen design.
Another classic for kitchen cupboards, the knob handle. Although, typically smaller than traditional handles, don’t underestimate them to contribute to your design and bring an element of style. Knob handles are also extremely functional and available in a variety of styles and finishes, so you’ll be spoilt for choice.
The underrated handle to add a simple sophistication to your kitchen cupboards. Cup handles can be jazzed up and are available in a half-moon/semi-circle or a box shape with a variety of detailing options.
- No-Handle Handles
The most modern of all kitchen handle trends – no hardware. A brilliant option for ultra-modern, minimalist kitchens. The beauty of this option is that your handles won’t go out of date because there are no handles.
- Style & Finish
Choosing your handle type is only the first step, to ensure a cohesive kitchen design you must carefully consider your style and finishes. A good tip for keeping things cohesive, is to use materials that are used throughout the kitchen.
- Size & Positioning
Choose an appropriate size for your kitchen handles to ensure that they are given enough prominence to contribute to the design rather than overtake it. The position of your handles probably isn’t something you’ve given too much thought to, but it is rather important for the functionality of your kitchen. Depending on the door or drawer, you can position your handles to ensure that they are super functional and intuitive to use.
- Mix & Match
An option that is available to you, is the ability to mix and match different handles. For example, using knobs for drawers and handles for doors, and vice versa. Just to add that little bit of extra intrigue to your kitchen design.
Handles have the ability to make or break your kitchen design, excellence is in the details. Lucky, handles are an easy upgrade, this will give you the flexibility required to keep up to date with the trends. If you go for the no-handle look (like a simple cut-out) it is a bit more of a commitment and upgrading might be more difficult. Due to the cut out in the cabinet door it is not just a simple switch.
